New CEO appointed to lead ‘game-changing’ heat pump company app

Heat pump start-up app has appointed Matt Broadway, a former SharkNinja President and Dyson Director, as its Chief Executive Officer.

Matt had served on the Board of Directors and as Chief Commercial Officer since joining app in March.

He brings significant experience. At SharkNinja, Matt successfully led the product design and technology company’s market expansion and significant revenue growth across Europe. Prior to that, he was Dyson’s former Group Commercial Director and Chief Operating Officer at smart home device manufacturer Netatmo.

The move comes at a time of significant growth for Bristol-based app, whose innovative technology can be installed five times faster and 30% cheaper than products currently on the market.

Its founder Russell Murchie will now focus on technology, product development, and technical leadership as Chief Engineer.

Matt said: “Since joining app earlier this year, I’ve realised its huge potential. It’s an exciting time for the company: having trialled the product in homes and proven our concept works, we’re now preparing to move into manufacture and production. Our product will be a game changer in the fast-growing heat pump market. As CEO, I look forward to leading the team, building strong industry partnerships, and ultimately driving market adoption."

With advanced orders already exceeding 1,000 units once manufacturing gets underway, app is poised for significant growth.

Russell, an ex-Dyson engineer, founded app in 2022 with Matthew Whitefoot and Andy Mckay, who have experience within the renewable energy, finance and start-up spaces.

He said: “Since joining app in March, Matt has been consistently impressed by the strength of the opportunity. He brings a wealth of experience in scaling high-growth technology businesses so I’m thrilled he’s joining full-time to lead app through this next stage of our journey.

“This change strengthens our leadership structure and ensures both Matthew and I are focused where we can deliver the most value - Matthew on day-to-day operations and business growth, and myself on the technical foundation and product innovation at the core of what we do.”
